"Da Galley Watch" is a Shetland reel in cut time and D Major. The parts are<br> played ABB (Bain) or AABB (Anderson & Georgeson, Brody, Martin, Shuldham-Shaw).<br> It is a typical Shetland reel, known throughout the islands. It was collected<br> and preserved by the Shetland Folk Society. Anderson & Georgeson (1970) note that<br> there were many versions of this traditional tune, some known by other titles.<br> The sources for the notated version are Boys of the Lough [Brody] and<br> John Stickle (1875-1957, Unst, Shetland) [Cooke, Shuldham-Shaw].<br> It was printed in Anderson & Georgeson's Da Mirrie Dancers (1970),<br> Bain's 50 Fiddle Solos (1989),<br> Brody's Fiddler's Fakebook (1983),<br> Cooke's The Fiddle Tradition of the Shetland Isles (1986),<br> Martin's Traditional Scottish Fiddling (2004) and<br> Pat Shuldham Shaw's "A Shetland Fiddler and His Repertoire: John<br> Stickle 1875-1957" in Journal of the English Folk Dance and Song Society,<br> vol. 9, no. 3, Dec. 1962.<br> It was recorded by Tom Anderson and Aly Bain on The Silver Bow (1976) and<br> Boys of the Lough on Second Album (1974).<br>
